Park Hyatt Shanghai- What to Expect
The thing I remember most about this property was stepping into my room and watching a cinematic view of the shanghai skyscrapers among the rolling clouds unfold before me. The weather on this January evening that I arrived at the property was cold and blustery, probably 1 degree Celsius at the time and it was the perfect weather of a cozy Park Hyatt stay.
What’s great about the Park Hyatt Shanghai
The room
Some among the Park Hyatt properties that I’ve stayed at, some of them feel like resorts, some of them feel like fancy apartment. This was definitely the latter. One of my favorite parts of staying in a hotel is feeling what it might be like to live in a city and this room made it feel like I was in a luxurious studio apartment. The lighting was just moody enough to accommodate the elegant dark wood fixtures. The desk area was the perfect place to work on my computer with a view of the changing atmosphere.
The views
You are literally up in the clouds and when the evening lights come on you’re in for a treat. I loved watching the cityscape light up from the warmth of my hotel room. Even the hotel lobby is on a high floor and you get to enjoy the city view even when lounging there.
The food
Both the room service that I had ordered and the breakfast buffet that I had the following morning were very good quality. I will admit, it was understandably more expensive than the wonderful street food that you can buy, but it was a nice change of pace to have an elevated version of the local cuisine.
Tips before you visit the Park Hyatt Shanghai
Alipay or WeChat – you’ll want to familiarize yourself with these apps because your international card won’t work at most places. However, the Hyatt properties I stayed at did seem to take my Hyatt credit card, I assume because it’s an American companies that wants to create to make payment as convenient and consistent as possible for guests who are used to their other locations around the world. Even so, everywhere else you visit in Shanghai will likely force you to pay by one of these apps so take the time to set one or the other up on your phone. It’s slightly more involved than you might anticipate but there’s lots of online tutorials.

Should you stay at the Park Hyatt Shanghai or the Hyatt on the Bund Shanghai?
I found that in the winter, I ended up taking Didi rides everywhere (they were so affordable) so it didn’t matter to me much whether I was on one side of the river or the other. In relation to the experience of your stay, if you prefer a Grand Hyatt or a Park Hyatt should probably determine which hotel you’d choose. Or if you’re like me you could split time between both places.
