Hyatt Regency Taoyuan International Airport- What to Expect

The last time I had a long layover in Taiwan was my first time entering the country and I had a lovely stay at the Grand Hyatt Taipei, which to me was a great introduction to the city. I even had a view of Taipei 101 from my room.

This time around I knew I wanted to prioritize rest and I, aside from loving the idea of trying a different property and being able to write about it here. Staying close enough to the hotel that I wouldn’t have to wake up super early for my morning flight was a great option. Overall, I felt it was a very comfortable stay. Again, I wasn’t here long but it was just right for what I needed before heading on the connecting long-haul flight to Australia.

What’s great about the Hyatt Regency Taoyuan International Airport

Close to the airport – it’s a very short ride on the complimentary shuttle to the property, so it’s a great place to sleep overnight if you have a long layover.

Free shuttle – makes it so easy to get to your hotel without having to deal with the confusion of figuring out how to get there or describe to your driver where you’re trying to go. At the shuttle area there’s a QR code that tells you the timetable, so you know around what time the next shuttle is coming.

The rooms aren’t flash – but they get the job done. There was one feature where the frosted glass of the bathroom was a bit weird when someone was showering because the light created a silhouette, so it’s probably not a room you’d want to share with someone you didn’t know well.

A few helpful tips before you stay at Hyatt Regency Taoyuan International Airport

This used to be the Novotel – when I was catching an Uber into Taipei, I noticed that it was having trouble picking up the location as the Hyatt on maps, maybe this is fixed now.

The shuttle was easy to use – I made sure I had a screenshot of the Hyatt Regency name in the local script so that I could show it to people when I was asking where the stop was.

Make sure to reserve your spot on the shuttle back to the airport – while it was easy to catch the shuttle from the airport, be sure that when you’re heading back for your flight you put your name down because it did get quite full. The person at the front desk will be able to advise which time to reserve based on your departure time.

Getting to Taipei is 40 mins in an Uber – longer on the MRT. I was pressed for time, so I chose a quiet ride into the city to sneak in a quick trip to the Raohe night markets. After eating great food and drinking bubble tea I felt good that I could go back to the hotel and know that I was only minutes away from the airport, so I didn’t need to rush in the morning.

Is there room service at the Hyatt Regency Taoyuan International Airport?

Yes, 24-hour room service is available but I did not use this service during my stay.

Is there a Globalist breakfast at the Hyatt Regency Taoyuan International Airport?

Yes, the Globalist breakfast is at the dining space to the left just after you enter the hotel. I had seen on other forums that it was mediocre, but I very much enjoyed it. The dining area is very spacious, and the food stations leave plenty of room so that you’re not having to wait in lines so much. I was able to create the elements of a Taiwanese breakfast that I’ve grown to love. There were also all the usual inclusions like drinks, fruit, salads, baked goods, Western breakfast options, in addition to local fare.

We had signed up to take the 6:30am shuttle to the airport but the breakfast started at 6am, so we were advised to check out first, leave our luggage near the buffet entrance and then have a quick breakfast before heading out. It was just enough time to do that.

What is the Club Lounge like at the Hyatt Regency Taoyuan International Airport?

I was at the hotel for the club lounge cocktail hour. There was a selection of small bites, not quite the substantial meal that you get from other Hyatt Regency Club Lounges around Asia but it’s always nice to get sodas and refreshments, so I’m not complaining. We didn’t stick around to eat much because I wanted to make sure I had enough room for the food we’d taste at the night markets.

What was the Globalist gift at the Hyatt Regency Taoyuan International Airport?

The Globalist gift was two perfectly ripe giant white peaches. I think this is one of my favorite gifts I have gotten at a hotel because I am so picky about peaches that I normally don’t even buy them at the grocery store. It’s hard to find ones that are just right – as opposed to the much more forgiving white nectarines that I like to eat whether they’re firm or ripe. It was such a treat to sit there and eat a peach while watching the view of the planes from our room.

I do recognize that if the Globalist gift option for this hotel is normally fruit, it will likely change from season to season. I was so impressed with all the fruit I had in Taiwan, including the mango and dragon fruit.

What is the gym like at the Hyatt Regency Taoyuan International Airport?

The gym is quite large, with lots of space for cardio machines, weight machines, free weights, and an area for stretching. It also had a ping pong table, although I didn’t see the actual equipment to play and it was very early so no one was manning the area.

Why stay at the Hyatt Regency Taoyuan International Airport?

This is a great stay if you’re like me and benefit from having that little bit of a lie down sleep in between two 8–10-hour flights. I got home feeling more refreshed, and I’d be more likely to choose to fly through Taiwan (I took EVA Air) knowing that I have a reliable and convenient stop to rest.

Should you stay at the Hyatt Regency Taoyuan International Airport or the Grand Hyatt Taipei?

Personally, I would have no qualms about staying at either property, but I think the most critical questions are how long do you intend to stay? and where do you plan to visit? For a layover that’s just long enough to leave the airport and sleep overnight I’d probably choose the Hyatt Regency Taoyuan International Airport– even if I was planning on going into Taipei for a quick bite.

If you want to be closer to the city and have a few days, staying at the Grand Hyatt Taipei is well worth the higher cost because you’re right in the mix of some of the areas you’ll want to explore anyway. Additionally, if it’s a first stay and you’re not sure when if ever you’ll be back you might as well see the most identifiable parts of the city.
