Grand Hyatt SFO in San Francisco- What to Expect

I’ve stayed here a couple of times and it’s one of my favorite places to use points, either to give myself some extra rest before making the drive to my parent’s house, or to relax a bit and not have to rush to the airport for an early morning flight.

Each time I stay it’s great. On this latest trip I was an international arrival and my mom met me there by taking BART (the Bay Area Rapid Transit train). When I met her at arrivals it was an easy, close walk to the elevators to get to the correct area.

As you exit the doors after customs, you go to the far right and there are lifts that take you to level 4. Don’t worry, there’s good signage.

Take the free air train that travels to the different terminals and one of the stops is marked specifically for the Grand Hyatt SFO.

Once you exit the doors of the air train you’ll see that you’ll need to go down a level. If you have a lot of luggage like I did, you can take the elevator down or if you only have a small bag with you there is an escalator that gets you down to the check-in area.

What’s great about the Grand Hyatt SFO in San Francisco

Fairly New Hotel

It feels very modern here, so you might enjoy that if that sort of thing is important to you. It’s still a Grand Hyatt so it’s not the same level of design in the rooms as say, an Andaz or Park Hyatt, but the rest of the hotel feels a little fancy/slick. That might also be because it’s in SF, there’s a certain aura about the city and the people who come through here, so I’m sure they cater to the tech and tech adjacent crowd as well as airline staff who stay.

Airplane watching

It’s pretty cool to see all the airplanes taking off at the airport and even at night when they’re parked. The room had special binoculars and a printed guide to the different airplanes which was fun for my kids the last time they were with me.

The Club Lounge

It’s a nice space with minimal but tasty choices. Lots of space for the size of the hotel. I never found it to be super busy and while there wasn’t a huge spread of food, there was just enough to make it interesting. I didn’t need to get another meal at dinner. Plus, they have an added hour for dessert at the end of the evening. These were small but perfect bites.

A few helpful tips before you stay at the Grand Hyatt SFO in San Francisco

-          There are aluminum cans of water instead of water bottles in the rooms, so I was glad I had my own bottle for water to refill at the fitness center. If you like to be able to refill your water you might want to make sure you keep a bottle with you as well.

-          If you have Globalist status I would arrange my schedule/flight (if you can) to be able to have the included breakfast. It’s wonderful with huge portions and fancier-than-usual selections. The first time I stayed my flight was entirely too early for the restaurant breakfast, but I was able to grab something from the grab and go area they had. It was still a good deal, but the sit-down breakfast is so much better.

Is there room service at the Grand Hyatt SFO in San Francisco?

There is in-room dining at the Grand Hyatt SFO. I didn’t have it, but my mom did when she was waiting for me to arrive from my international flight in the evening. She didn’t rate the food, so I’d probably stick with Uber Eats myself. However, she loved the Globalist breakfast we had at the hotel.

Is there a Globalist breakfast at the hotel?

Yes, there is a breakfast offered at the restaurant, it starts from 6am. Each person (up to 2 adults and 2 children I believe on the Globalist benefit) has a choice of one entrée, one main, and one non-alcoholic beverage.

My mom and I shared our selections - we had the eggs benedict with crab cakes, spam fried rice with fried eggs, chicken apple sausage, bacon and a couple of cranberry juices. It was delicious and very generous sizing. We couldn’t finish it all. I peeked over at the other family next to us who had ordered other things like the breakfast sandwich, and no joke, it all looked so good.

I didn’t order a coffee here because I knew I could get one at the club lounge when they opened at 630am. Look, we use all our Globalist benefits, right?

What is the Globalist gift at the hotel?

I haven’t received a Globalist gift at this hotel, but when I first brought my kids here my daughter was gifted a plush Grand Hyatt SFO plane. It was the cutest thing, but then she lost it on the other end of our trip at the Hyatt Regency in Sydney. We did end up getting it back, so it cost me postage but it’s okay because we love it. One of my favorite pieces of Hyatt merch. I’m still waiting for stickers to come out that I can put on my luggage to be honest but the random plushies at different hotels are cute.

What is the gym like at the Grand Hyatt SFO in San Francisco?

It’s a long workout space with lots of natural lighting. It’s a good place to get the blood flowing after a long-haul flight or in preparation for one.

Points or pay?

The Grand Hyatt at SFO is a category 6 hotel, so it’s not cheap. I try to use points here when I can. It might seem frivolous when I’m usually on my way to or from somewhere, but it makes a huge difference to have that bit of rest and a place to relax and lay down after a 14-hour flight (which it usually is for me from Australia). It can make a big difference to how well I recover after a flight and might mean I bounce back after 2 or 3 days versus dragging along for week.
